Modelling Mechanic (m/f)
Prerequisites: Foundry Pattern Construction
Foundry pattern construction work centres on patterns that are required above all for the series production of casting moulds. These correspond to the shape of the respective casting, but have to be capable of division for the most part owing to the moulding processes.
Modelling mechanics produce such models in different ways and with different wear resistance on the basis of design drawings and depending on the moulding process, the metal to be cast and the number of moulding processes required. They use hard timber, plastics or metal, which is worked mainly by cutting, for example by turning, boring or milling, sometimes using computer-controlled machines, but also by hand, for example by filing or grinding.
In foundries, they also fabricate further mould accessories such as moulding boxes, templates and pattern plates. To do this, they require a knowledge of casting. Using special measuring equipment, they check the dimensions and examine separable foundry models with a view to their functionality. They also repair models subjected to wear owing to constant use in production. Likewise they manufacture simple tools, accessories and other aids that they require for their work. Designs and drawings are often produced on the computer nowadays; likewise many measuring processes are EDP-aided.
Modelling mechanics specializing in foundry pattern construction work on pattern and sample construction in foundries or in specialized model and mould construction businesses, where they are mostly employed in workshops
